Guiding Good Choices for Parents and Caregivers Workshops Upcoming

SRSLY Chelsea is partnering with St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea and the Community Mental Health Partnership of Southeast Michigan to lead free “Guiding Good Choices” parent/caregiver workshops this fall!

SRSLY Chelsea is a community coalition of youth, parents, neighbors, teachers, librarians, healthcare professionals, law enforcement, religious leaders, local businesses, civic group members, and anyone else who wants to prevent youth substance use in Chelsea. More than 1500 people have donated time and energy to the coalition over the past 10 years. Anyone age 10 and up can join by working on a project, helping at an event, or coming to a meeting.

SRSLY received St Barnabas’ Fair Parking donation in 2017.

These workshops will help parents and caregivers with communication, bonding, and setting rules & boundaries.

Parents, guardians and/or grandparents are welcome to attend. The program works best with caregivers who have a child between the ages of 9-14, but is open to anyone. The workshop includes 5 sessions, held for 2 hours once a week.

Session 1: Planning a Family Meeting
Session 2: Developing Healthy Beliefs & Clear Standards
Session 3: Refusal Skills for Youth
Session 4: Managing Conflict
Session 5: Strengthening Family Bonds

This program is evidence based, and is proven to reduce youth substance abuse and other problematic behaviors.

WHEN: Thursdays in October from 4pm to 6pm (last session may be moved to a later date due to Halloween)

WHERE: South Meadows Elementary School – Media Center

COST: FREE; childcare available upon request

More workshops will also be offered in 2020. If you know parents, guardians and/or grandparents who may be interested, invite them to sign up for our mailing list so we can share upcoming event dates with them.
